Oral History Interviews
Our project has invited experienced instructors to lead groups of recruited volunteers in conducting planned interviews with local villagers. Prior to the interviews, a preview set of research materials were being shared with these volunteers for their better understanding of the interviewees’ general background. The instructor has also highlighted interview techniques and manners in guiding them to come up with questionnaire drafts and carry out proper oral history interviews. Through conversing, interviewers were able to gather first-hand information about personal recollections and commentaries of incidents that have a significant past. Historical events that have particular relevancy with Fu Tei Au such as Japanese invasion of Hong Kong during WWII, Hungry Ghost Festival, and villagers’ economic activities were recorded. These inquiries and exchanges will be processed and transcribed into written format such as pamphlets for interested parties to have closer look at the history of Fu Tei Au.
